Dental Hygiene Tips from Dr. Amin
Simple, proven habits that keep your teeth and gums healthy between visits.
Brush Correctly, Twice Daily
Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush for at least 2 minutes, twice a day — morning and before bed. Use gentle circular motions; scrubbing too hard wears down enamel and irritates gums.
Floss Every Day
Flossing removes food particles and plaque from between teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. Do it gently once a day, preferably at night before brushing.
Rinse with Mouthwash
An antibacterial fluoride mouthwash helps reduce bacteria, strengthen enamel, and freshen breath. Use it after brushing at night for best results. Avoid rinsing immediately after — let the fluoride work.
Limit Sugar and Acidic Foods
Sugar feeds cavity-causing bacteria. Acidic drinks like sodas and citrus juices weaken enamel. Limit these, and rinse your mouth with water after consuming them. Don't brush immediately after acidic foods — wait 30 minutes.
Stay Hydrated
Drinking water throughout the day helps wash away food particles and bacteria, and keeps saliva flow healthy. Saliva is your mouth's natural defense against decay. Fluoridated tap water also strengthens your teeth.
Visit Us Every 6 Months
Professional cleaning removes calculus (hardened plaque) that brushing cannot, and Dr. Amin can spot early signs of cavities, gum disease, or other issues before they worsen. Prevention is always cheaper than treatment.
